Welcome to Colorado's Original Goat Yoga operation! Yes! Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga started in May 2017, when Founder Jim Naron decided to go for broke and introduce 2 classes of goat yoga to the Boulder community. The result- smiles, laughs, and weekly visits to the goat farm ever since. For Jim, it was simple, he was trying out creative ways to host yoga classes, but not having success. After trying happy hour events, couples retreats, and more, things simply weren't working out. It was very difficult to afford to even host lessons. In an expensive place like Colorado, we all know how hard it is to get by with rent. Private Yoga events were just not paying the bills.
As a father, you want to do everything you can to give your kid the best life possible, and that was the mission that blossomed into colorado’s first ever goat yoga operation. After seeing Goat Yoga’s original founder, Laney Morse, host therapeutic lessons in Oregon, Jim decided to give it a shot. Not without resistance- in the form of business owners, close friends, and relatives laughing at the idea of people doing yoga with goats. (This is still a laughing matter, as one cannot avoid breaking into spontaneous chuckles as they attempt to pose with a baby goat.) However, it was make or break for Jim, and despite the resistance, he was able to organize lessons by renting goats from a local boulder goat owner.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Who would have known, after starting Goat Yoga in Colorado, Jim Naron would spend the next year owning a thriving business, that serves smiles to people of all ages, kids all the way to grandparents... That’s the beauty of it all, you don’t have to be a yoga expert, or a goat expert to enjoy Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga, you just need a sense of humor, and an open mind. “Really, yoga with goats? How preposterous.” Said, everyone, until they tried something completely new that left them giggling and telling stories to friends for months to come.
This just in- goat yoga is not only therapeutic, but it is also fun! And it continues to make people happy one year after it was first started. Our story, however, is not about a person that tried just one or two lessons and went back to normal life. Its not about a yoga teacher who decided to get goats involved. Its a story most would dismiss as luck, but it is very farm from it. Our story is about determination and not gving up. It is about creating positive change in the world. It is about changing lives, one lesson at a time. And our story continues to unfold because we simply believe in what we do.
We believe that goat yoga is bigger than yoga, bigger than goats, and bigger than yes, Peyton Manning. (Will have to add an additional part to this story, and yes, we are Broncos fans, but yes, move over, Peyton, it’s our chance to shine.) Why you might ask? Well, the answer is buried a bit deeper, somewhere underneath the organic matter that goats chew up and spit out. Somewhere in your heart, perhaps, somewhere in the matter that connects your heart to a goats heart. The answer, in fact, continues to be buried, just out of reach.
Why is goat yoga so amazing? Why do people always smile when they do yoga with goats? Is it the goats, are people who attend lessons just crazy? Is it the Owner, Jim? Or is it the goat farmers? What is the meaning behind all this goat madness?!
Well, we like to think that we are actually pretty normal people, by we, meaning the rocky mountain goat yoga team. We do love goats. But there's one thing that’s even more important, we love people. And when goats and people connect, we really love the atmosphere it creates. I mean, maybe that is crazy, loving both people and goats.
How many people actually love both people, and goats? Well, as it turns out, everyone that experiences Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga leaves with a love of both people, and goats. And maybe that's our mission, to see people’s hearts grow two sizes after a Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga lesson.
The only thing we know for sure is that our story is just getting started, and it’s something we want to share with everyone. Goat Yoga is a thing. And Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga is the best thing to happen to Colorado since, well, Peyton Manning? Or, Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga is the best thing to happen to yoga since yoga mats... Or Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga is just really trying to show you how much fun goat yoga is, and that it’s something worth checking out, no matter your age, gender, etc etc.
We just know that we love to make you smile.
On behalf of Rocky Mountain Goat Yoga,
Much Love & Baby Goats!
